Dr. Duncan’s NIH-funded research program focuses on chromosomal variations in the liver (i.e., polyploidy and aneuploidy) and how they affect liver development, regeneration and carcinogenesis. Dr. Duncan is an active member in the Interdisciplinary Biomedical Graduate Program, and he is involved in graduate teaching and the admissions committee, and serves as assistant director of the CATER T32 training program. Program Director for the UPMC Cytopathology Fellowship

Dr. Monaco is also the Director of the FNA Clinic at UPMC Shadyside and the Director of the FNA Biopsy Service at Children's Hospital of Pittsburgh of UPMC. Dr. Monaco's interests include fine-needle aspiration (FNA) biopsy diagnosis, cytology-histology correlations, and the application of ancillary studies and molecular diagnostics in adult and pediatric cytopathology. Dr. Monaco has presented several educational courses at national and international meetings, including the United States and Canadian Academy of Pathology (USCAP), American Society of Cytopathology (ASC), American Society for Clinical Pathology (ASCP), and International Academy of Cytology (IAC).
